Description:

Ricky Ponting 2007 Pressure Play (otherwise known as Brian Lara Pressure Play for gamers in the UK) is the first appearance of Codemasters' long-running cricket series on the PSP, although the UK-based company has handed over development reins on this game to Australian development house IR Gurus. Pressure Play is, in essence, a stripped-back version of the console games released earlier this year and features a similar gameplay style but with far fewer match options packed into it.
Codemasters' International Cricket games in 2007 focused almost exclusively on the one-day form of the game, with the main gameplay mode being the ICC Cricket World Cup held in the West Indies earlier this year. Pressure Play for the PSP similarly focuses on the World Cup, with all of the official teams, player names, and uniforms included. Sadly, all of the other modes included in the console version--such as test matches, Twenty20 games, and the ICC Champions Trophy--have been left out, making for a pretty meagre experience once you get bored of reliving the ICC Cricket World Cup. The gameplay of the International Cricket 2007 games were already pretty bare mode-wise, but Pressure Play is even worse, meaning its long-term appeal is severely restricted. Thankfully, Pressure Play also features a two-player multiplayer mode via wireless, allowing you to extend your gameplay with any friends who may also have the game.

Racing in Ridge Racer is fun. In fact, it's always been fun, so there haven't been many changes made here, which is good for fans of the series. However, the gameplay isn't going to convert anyone after a decade of minor changes. Collisions merely slow you down, and powerslides are still your primary means of moving around corners. The one key difference is that powersliding now fills up an onscreen nitro meter. When you fill one of your nitro stocks (you can store up to three boosts), you can unleash it at will for a modest speed boost. The opposing vehicles also will crack open a nitro stock from time to time, usually waiting until you're about to pass before coming at you. Beyond that, the driver artificial intelligence isn't terribly impressive. The 11 other cars in the race sort of follow their own lines and don't do much to block your pass attempts. This makes most of the game pretty easy, once you've mastered the art of the powerslide, but as you proceed through the world tour mode, the difficulty (and the speed) does ramp up.

Exterior appearances like courses and cars are not only realistic but the sensation of speed has also been increased. In addition, another feature of Ridge Racer is the temporal use of nitro to accelerate after accumulating sufficient charge from drifting. Using this, not only can the winning gap be widened within a shor while, but one can also turn defeat into victory in critical times.

However, there are signs that the demons are slowly infiltrating the world once more.
To counter the impending threat, heroes Ecthel and Ledah venture off in an adventure to prevent the potential destruction of Riviera, aka the Paradise Land. The game is broken up into simple movement, quest, and attack phases. Choose to move by pressing the "B" button and the heroes will automatically move as if the page were being flipped. Arrows delineate where the heroes may move and generally only one path is available per screen. If a treasure chest is encountered in an new area that the heroes have walked into, the Quest mode can be triggered by pressing "A" which allows one of the heroes to open up to chest and plunder its contents.

I haven't played the original, but from everything I've read and seen, the sequel looks pretty similar to the original in terms of visuals and gameplay, with some improvements added to the mix.

In fact, it's always been fun, so there haven't been many changes made here, which is good for fans of the series. However, the gameplay isn't going to convert anyone after a decade of minor changes. Collisions merely slow you down, and powerslides are still your primary means of moving around corners. The one key difference is that powersliding now fills up an onscreen nitro meter. When you fill one of your nitro stocks (you can store up to three boosts), you can unleash it at will for a modest speed boost. The opposing vehicles also will crack open a nitro stock from time to time, usually waiting until you're about to pass before coming at you. Beyond that, the driver artificial intelligence isn't terribly impressive. The 11 other cars in the race sort of follow their own lines and don't do much to block your pass attempts. This makes most of the game pretty easy, once you've mastered the art of the powerslide, but as you proceed through the world tour mode, the difficulty (and the speed) does ramp up.
